In this oracle card reading with the flowers for winter 2023, it looks to be a season of going within and doing some inner work.
Winter is my favourite time of the year; a time of resting, renewing ourselves, and slowing right down to nearly a stop.
The flowers tell us this winter season is a time of cleansing our energy with the African violet, magnifying our intentions and focusing with gypsophila, and mending our emotional wounds with the bleeding heart.
Squirrel spirit brings it all together by reminding us to believe in ourselves.
Previous Seasonal Oracle Readings:
For this reading as for the last reading, I’ll be using the Flower Therapy book to accompany the Flower Therapy Oracle Cards and guidebook by Robert Reeves, and the Spirit Animal Oracle cards and guidebook by Colette Baron-Reid.
I like to pull a card to represent each month of the season and then pull a Spirit Animal card for the overall theme and message for the entire season.
As always, I’m reading in the southern hemisphere, so for me the months I’m reading for are June, July and August 2023. That’s Aussie winter. But if you’re in the northern hemisphere, the reading can still apply just the same to you, although you’ll be experiencing summer and may need to mentally replace the word “winter” with “summer.”
So here we go.
June: “Cleanse Your Energy” – African Violet
My favourite houseplants are African violets. In a blog post about creating a warm and cosy home space, I introduced you to Paulo, my deep reddish-pink African violet. I keep him in my space to uplift the energy, and for starters in June I’d highly recommend adopting one of these wonderful plants to enhance the vibrancy in your home.
The African violet encourages us in June to release negativity to allow any answers we may be unconsciously blocking to be revealed to us.
You’re not going to want any harsh or cloudy dense stagnant energy hanging around you or your space. The African violet comes along as a purifier, cleanser and transformer of that lower energy and vibration.
If you don’t have access to an African violet plant, you can use a photo of one, visit a garden centre, or engage in any of your other chosen modalities for cleansing your energy.
July: “Magnify Your Intentions” – Gypsophila
Well if it isn’t the gypsophila with an invitation to simplify and get focused.
Gypsophila is another name for ‘Baby’s Breath’ which is the name on the oracle card, but I can’t seem to bring myself to call it by that name. So it’s the gypsophila.
Specifically, gypsophila says, “Choose a specific goal to work towards. Your energy is spread out among too many ideas. Please bring your focus back to the key intention and let your angels help.”
This card resonates with me deeply. After decluttering, simplifying, and getting really focused by practicing fierce prioritisation and honing in on my values and living from that aligned place, I find that even now I get a bit carried away with the number of different ideas and projects I have on the go.
As I know from personal experience, having so many ideas and so much enthusiasm for so many different areas of life and projects is scattering, and I end up not doing anything very well, or having a whole lot of different things on the go and then get too overwhelmed to finish any of them.
I know I said my spirit flower was a simple daisy, but the gypsophila is definitely an integral part of my spiritual support team to help keep me focused.
So whether you’re full-on scattered or just need a gentle reminder, here is your nudge to define your values, what’s really important, and then practice fierce prioritisation.
One thing at a time.
So my question to you that the gypsophila wants me to ask is, what is the most important thing/project that you want to focus on in July?
Just for a month, not even for a full season. Pick one project or life aspect and work on it this month.
August: “Emotional Healing” – Bleeding Heart
To wrap up winter, we’re being advised to focus on some emotional healing. The bleeding heart reminds us that, “It’s safe for you to let go of old emotional pain. By doing so, you allow your heart to mend.”
In August and heading into spring, we need to shed our emotional baggage, and not judge ourselves for holding on to any emotions, consciously or unconsciously.
If working with angels is your thing, archangel Raphael is good to work with at this time. Working with the bleeding heart flower will help you let go of resentments and launch into spring with a lightness that comes with releasing emotional baggage that’s no longer necessary or helpful.
Be gentle with yourself as you do this and it may be beneficial to work with a therapist for support and help.
Look after your heart physically, emotionally and spiritually.
Overall Theme: “Believe in Yourself” – Squirrel Spirit
The overall theme of winter is to believe in yourself.
Winter seems to be a time of self-healing and going within, with the mini-themes each month of cleansing your energy and the energy of your home with the African violet in June, then setting your intentions and focusing on one thing at a time with the gypsophila in July, and finally healing emotionally with the bleeding heart in August.
We move from cleansing our energy and space which will help us set our intentions, to healing ourselves emotionally which opens us up to set into motion and make even more tangible progress with the focus of our intentions in the coming months.
While we’re going through these mini-themes and months, the squirrel spirit reminds us that we’ve gained wisdom and experience over the years and that we each have all we need.
Just as the squirrel gathers acorns that have enormous potential to grow into huge oak trees, so have you gathered metaphorical acorns that have huge potential to become something wonderful.
Maybe it’s that wisdom I mentioned earlier, or maybe from experiences you’ve gathered all the resources you need, or it could be ideas that are the metaphorical acorns ready to be grown into something tangible.
With the appearance of the gypsophila, it may be beneficial to focus on just one acorn and tend to that with care.
You have everything you need, so believe in yourself.
